Thank you for your interest in the UCalgary Alumni Association (UCAA) Board of Directors. Comprised of a group of dedicated and diverse volunteers, the University of Calgary Alumni Board provides the valued perspective of current alumni to meet the needs of members and support UCalgary’s priorities. 

All applications to the UCAA Board of Directors will be checked for completeness and will be reviewed by members of the UCAA Nominations and Assessments Committee and members of the UCAA Executive. The UCAA Nominations and Assessments Committee will consider a combination of experience, skills and representation of the UCalgary alumni community in the review process. Diversity & Anti-Bias Acknowledgement The diversity of the Alumni Association membership is a core strength of the UCalgary Alumni Association Board of Directors and Committees. Like the university itself, we know that we're a stronger and more dynamic board when the diverse experiences of our alumni inform our processes, decision-making, and priorities. We don't just welcome and value diverse perspectives and approaches — we need them to achieve our goals. We welcome and encourage applicants who are passionate about advancing this work with the UCAA in the coming years. We are taking efforts through our recruitment process to reduce bias. Specifically: 

• The UCAA Nominations and Assessments Committee is using demographic and skills-based data from the UCAA Board Members to identify gaps and patterns. This will inform future vacancies, as well as support our goal of reflecting the alumni community we serve. 
• Accessibility and inclusion are a priority throughout the application process, as well as while serving on the Board. In this application candidates are asked to share how we can support them to fully participate and engage in this process and their Board responsibilities.
• Access and Inclusion training from a lens of reviews, applications and adjudication will be completed with all application reviewers and interviewers.

At this time, the UCAA is open to applicants residing in any geographical area. Please note that applicants outside of the Calgary area will have accessible online opportunities to participate in Board and Committee meetings. Some activities, including UCalgary and Alumni office led opportunities, may only be possible in person (eg. Certain on-campus events and programs). The UCAA commits to ensuring that all required Director activities will be available in hybrid, online or asynchronous means.

• Please ensure that you respond to all questions in the application form. Applications submitted to us in a manner separate from the form must include responses to all questions to be considered complete and eligible for committee review. 

The UCAA is proactively recruiting for future Board openings. Submitting an application does not guarantee a position on the Board. The UCAA is committed to following this process: 

• Applications for the UCAA Board of Directors are reviewed by the UCAA Nominations and Assessments Committee (NAC)
• Candidates may be contacted for an interview
• Candidates may be asked to provide references
• Selected candidates are nominated by the UCAA Nominations and Assessments Committee and may be either: appointed for a one-year term or elected by the UCAA membership at the Annual General Meeting for a two-year term. 
• All applicants, regardless of their possibility for interview or acceptance to the Board will receive communications about their application and an opportunity to express alternative ways to be engaged and learn more about our activities.

Before you fill out the funding application  for a Community/Industry sponsorship, please refer to the AAA Partnership Fund Process document, and consider if your application meets all the outlined criteria. 

Filling out this form indicates that you have worked through all the relevant deliverables, and are ready for Alumni Engagement to assess your application and make a decision on the information presented.

A recognized Affinity Community may apply for funding through The Affinity Community Assistance Program (ACAP) which is supported by the Office of Alumni Engagement of the University of Calgary and administered by the Affinity Community Committee of the Alumni Association. The program provides financial assistance to Affinity Communities for their programs, events, and projects as they relate to university goals. The University of Calgary Alumni Association is proudly dedicated to engaging our entire alumni community by fostering pride, spirit and tradition. The university, together with the alumni association, provides exceptional value and ongoing support to our alumni worldwide.

The Affinity Communities Committee of the Board may deny any request for funding based on a Community’s failure to adhere to the below guidelines or any action by a Community that is not consistent with the mission and purpose of the Alumni Association.

Funding Guidelines:

• You have been recognized as an Affinity Community by the Alumni Association
• Application must be submitted by an active member of the Affinity Community 
• Up to $2,000 per program, event, or project may be awarded.
• Applications must demonstrate how the project/event will help achieve the following goals:
• Strengthen the UCalgary network
• Launch or grow Affinity Community membership base
• Achieve or make progress on specific Affinity Community objectives (this refers to objectives the group highlighted on their Affinity Communities application form)
• Promote mentorship of students and/or alumni 
• Faculty-based affinity communities must demonstrate that the program/event is an affinity community led initiative and not a faculty led initiative (consider how this event will help the affinity community reach its goals and if this event would exist without the affinity community)
• Funding does not cover the cost of alcohol, cannabis or any operating costs (exceptions to operating costs may be made upon discussion)

 
Conditions of Funding:

• UCalgary Alumni Association must be acknowledged in all marketing materials including web postings, invitations, and news stories
• Events should fall into one or more of the four focus areas: professional development; personal development; pride, spirit, and tradition; and philanthropy
• Receipts, final attendance lists, pictures and event recaps should be sent to your UCalgary Affinity Community liaison within five (5) business days of event
• Applications must include an estimated budget at time of submission
• Retroactive and late applications will not be considered
• Affinity Communities remain responsible for all planning and implementation of the program/event 

The UCalgary Alumni office will process funding requests on a first-come first-served basis until all program funds for the programming year (April 1-March 31) are disbursed.
Following evaluation, successful applicants will receive an agreement confirming details and conditions of funding.  Funding will be provided following sign off.
